TORONTO, ONTARIO (September 13, 2013) – Castlemark Wealth Management Inc. is pleased to announce that company president Robyn K. Thompson, CFP, CIM, FCSI, will be a volunteer partner with Girls Inc. of Durham in the launch of the ING-Girls Inc. Investing Matters program. Running through the 2013-14 school year at the Queen Elizabeth Public School in Oshawa, Ontario, this new financial education curriculum for teen girls was developed in partnership with ING U.S. and Girls Inc.
The pilot program, to be run by Girls Inc. of Durham, is a one-year curriculum that allows teen girls to develop a $36,000 portfolio as they learn the role of investing, saving, budgeting, and philanthropy in personal finance.
Throughout the program, Robyn K. Thompson will provide answers to content and technical questions, guidance around research, and career exposure. “I’m honoured to be part of this tremendous opportunity to teach girls the importance of financial literacy in a supportive and engaging way,” said Thompson. “As a successful businesswoman, I hope I can also be a role model for girls in their formative years,” she added.
The program will be held at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Oshawa and will run twice a month during the 2013-14 school year starting in September. Investing Matters will give 15-20 girls aged 12 to 14 the opportunity to learn about investing principles while managing a virtual portfolio. This initiative gives girls practical, hands-on investing experience with the support of a volunteer investment expert.
As part of the ING-Girls Inc. Investing Matters, participants research and purchase mutual funds and equities as they learn about concepts like diversification and the roles of investing, saving and budgeting. Girls will track their virtual portfolio in real-time and be able to engage with financial services professionals about economic education and career options.
